As they say on Cribs...where the magic happens.

I think it's a sign of my age when I use a reference to Cribs as my title. Not that I'm old or anything, but Cribs is the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous of my generation. It's just that instead of "champagne wishes and caviar dreams" it's "fridge full of Crystal and flat screen TVs". Anyway, onto what I've been fiddling with all night. In my little mind I've got this obsession with the new house (which I think is totally normal) and I've been pretty much spending every free moment browsing the internet for ideas and resources and thinking about how I'm going to decorate every room of the new house. Well, that's only semi true, I've been thinking about the bedroom, the living room, the dining room, the front porch and the downstairs bathroom. The kitchen, office, upstairs bathroom, "closet" and "man cave" have been pretty much ignored. I JUST came up with a color scheme today for the guest room, but I'm not going to worry about that for a while. The reason that I've been so obsessed with all this decorating is two fold: One. I've got it in my head that the more I prepare for the new house (packing, planning, etc.) the faster move-in day will come. Actually, forget move-in day, the day the current owners move OUT is the day I am looking forward to, because that's the day I can go over and start painting! Two. When Adam and I moved into our apartment, I had everything ready. We signed on the dotted line for the lease in June, but we didn't move in until September. So, I had a floor-plan and a whole summer to get ready and buy furniture and pick out curtains and refinish tables. So when we moved in, it was just a matter of putting things where they belonged. The place was pretty much finished within 2 weeks of moving in. I haven't quite gotten it through my head yet that it's not going to be that way this time, it is going to take YEARS before I'm able to decorate every room. It's just TOO MUCH to even attempt to do the same thing this time. Regardless of whether those things are crazy, I'm planning anyway. And today I put together some stuff for the bedroom. I'm going to take some things we currently have and mix in some new stuff, all according to this color scheme:

See, back in the day when I was planning our wedding, way after I had picked the color scheme we ended up using, I came across an issue of Martha Stewart Weddings where they had put together a yellow and gray wedding, and I was obsessed with yellow and gray from then on. Here are some of my inspiration photos right now. Due to budget constraints and the fact that I know I probably won't like this forever, I'm not going all out with the yellow and gray, but here is the little mood board I put together tonight to help me gather my thoughts and actually see what this might look like in real life.
Bedroom
Want to know what it's all about? Let's break it down: 1. Crate & Barrel's Giselle Bed. This isn't actually the bed we have, but it's pretty darn close, so in this instance it's a stand in. Our bed was way too expensive to toss out now and we do love it, so it stays. 2. Wall color, a nice neutral, relaxing gray, I'm going for a relaxing feel for this whole room. 3. Ikea's Orgel lamps on the night stands. We already have these lamps (leftovers from Adam's bachelor days). They're not my favorite but for the time being they work and they'll go pretty well in the room I think. 4. Robert Allen @ Home Floored fabric in "sandstone" from Joann fabrics (I get a 15% discount there for being a teacher!) I'm not afraid of a needle and thread, and right now I'd love this as an 18" wide band along the bottom of some nice cream colored linen curtains, and then used as an accent somewhere else, perhaps a pillow. 5. In my secret fantasy where I'm filthy stinking rich I'll have a few Audubon prints. This lovely owl print is going for $500 right now, it's just a pipe dream that I thought would look nice in the room. 6. Ikea's Hemnes dresser in black-brown. We already have this piece, and it's in good shape so it's staying. We have the low version too, but it will be going in my "closet" room. 7. Cherry Blossom Vase from Target. I'm a sucker for anything with cherry blossoms on it...I'd tell you why but it involves a sappy story about me and my husband and our first date. 8. Embroidered accent pillow from Target. I always need some kind of smaller pillow on the bed, I like to hug a pillow when I sleep (Adam is jealous of said pillows). 9. Grey Striped Sheets from Target. I've already bought these, actually. They're not great when it comes to thread count, but they are when it comes to price, $40 for the set. They'll do for the time being until I find something else. And besides, you can never have too many sets of sheets. 10. Yellow Cable Throw from CB2.com. It's too pricey, but I am going to look for a couple of throws that go with the scheme (probably a yellow and a white) to put on the bed when it's looking fancy and made...which is rarely. 11. Ikea Hemnes nightstand. These are going to have to wait a little bit, just as a cost saving measure. I'm planning to take our current night stands (Adam's from when he was god knows how old, probably from junior high) and paint them either yellow, white or taupe and I'll also be swapping out the hardware on them. They aren't my favorite but we don't need the nightstands right away. 12. This is a stand in for the mirror we already have, which I plan to paint pewter, white or taupe (it's black with red undertones now).
