We've discussed that possibility of turning that area into some kind of shelf. There a a few problems with it (getting to anything on the shelf, being able to clean the window, what to do with the flooring...a carpeted shelf seems weird) but the possibility hasn't been eliminated yet. We haven't started designing and planning the railing just yet.

In line with what michelle said, I think you could simplify the railing and use the extra space as a shelf or display space for something. It also reduces the likelihood of a kid sneaking back there and getting caught.

ooh that is a weird ass space by the window. since you're replacing the railing, is there any way to fill in that part of the stair opening to make that area an actual space? make a tiny office for the helper elves? ;)

I feel like this stove is perfect for cooking oddly-shaped things... like human body parts and/or babies. You wouldn't even necessarily have to cook the whole thing, you could be like, "BAD KID!" and plop it on the stove for a few minutes as punishment. Then again, I've heard cannibals prefer gas/flame cooking, as I do.

Regarding your comic: my dad had a client whose garage had a hoist for car-stacking purposes. He had four red Lamborghinis. I do not understand why they were all red.
